Just after midnight on September 7, 2026, Deputy Terrian Bailey of the Clairborne County Sheriff's Department (Mississippi) was shot and killed.
Deputy Bailey had responded to a disturbance call near a local convenience store off of Highway 18 near Hermanville, MS, just shortly after midnight. Deputy Bailey was working to disperse a crowd that had gathered after a festival when shots were fired. He and a civilian bystander were struck. Both Deputy Bailey and the civilian were taken to a nearby hospital. Deputy Bailey succumbed to his wounds later that morning.
At the time of this posting, the shooting was still under investigation, and the suspect is unfortunately still at large.
Deputy Bailey had served with the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department for six years. Survivors include his wife and four children. Our prayers go out to his family at home as well with the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department.
